Google Slides™ - How to Insert YouTube™ Videos That Play Automatically at the Right Place

One of my favorite things about having a 2 minute video teed up and ready to go automatically is that I can take care of a few of the thousand things that come up while teaching.  Also, the video can be scheduled to stop at the right time so I don't have a room full of students complaining that I turned it off.  It just happened!

So, you'd logically be thinking, "These slide shows are great and all, but I want to be able to add an educational video to it."

Don't know how to do that?  Look no further. We will cover the following right here my friend:

  • How to add a YouTube video directly into a Google Slide
  • How to add your own video directly into a Google Slide
  • How to set the start time and finish time in Google Slides

Google Slides(PowerPoint see below)

If you're not a video fan, I'll do my best below with words.

Google Slides
First, navigate to the slide in the slideshow that you want to insert a video into.

If needed you can quickly add a slide by duplicating the color/formatting you want with the shortcut control D (or command D)

Next, on the menu across the top,  click on the "Insert" option.

Click the video option in the dropdown list.

Select your option.  You can add a YouTube video using the link, or you can search for any YouTube video you may like.  Finally, you can upload a video from your computer.

After the video appears on the slide, there will be a Formatting Panel open to the right of the slide.  Like this:

Here is where the magic happens!

Use the tiny screen with your video on it to pinpoint where you want your video to start.

There are two clocks, one with a start time at 0:00 and the other with the end time of the entire video underneath that little video screen.

You can use your cursor arrow to run through the video to find a scene that you like, or you can play the whole video.  Once you find where you want the video to start, make sure to pause the video at that point.  Click on the "use current time"  button, and it's set!  Do the same thing for the stopping point you want for the video.

TA-DA! You're magical!
